How does one truly capture love when shooting interracial couples? I’m an African American and wedding photographer who specializes in weddings and engagement photographs. But instead of capturing portraits and slices of life, I am a chronicler of love. Equal partners join together to form a union that can be beautiful and challenging at the same moment.

My primary goal is to visually convey their love in a manner they will remember for the rest of their lives. I strive to provide a diverse representation of love, family, and happiness which stems from the desire to share new values, equality, and experiences with viewers. When I meet interracial couples who entrust my team and me with bringing their creative visions to life, I’m eager to learn about their love.

They are part of a growing cultural shift that speaks of progress in America as well as changing perceptions about beauty, acceptance, and tolerance. CARILYN & ANTHONY

Carilyn & Anthony are a charming multicultural couple who wanted to get some new high-quality wedding photos taken. These two love birds met and fell in love way back in college, and from that moment on, they have been inseparable. Their personalities are very vibrant, and so is their love for music. That’s when J&J Studios stepped in as their engagement photographer.

MARY JANE & JOHN

Fusing Asian and American cultures, Mary Jane & John wanted to create an eclectic mix of images with a strong focus on street photography during their engagement photoshoot. We went around and tried to fit their style best and how they wanted to portray themselves as a couple. We also had a strong focus on street photography every time we were out exploring the city. They were looking for bright colors and bold prints as predominant in their wardrobe and wanted something very different from what you could see in most portfolios of engagement photography.

HAILEY & DON

Don & Hailey contacted J&J studios during their engagement photoshoot, desiring a unique and memorable addition to their wedding album. Hailey is an actress, poet, and dancer. Don is a graduate of Howard University and the owner of an Earmark Fund which makes loans to small businesses in urban communities. They desired portraits that portrayed their connection and personalities, but in a clean and brand-free style. After discussing the finer points of their shoot, J&J was able to provide them with custom images that still captured and conveyed their unique love story.

DINAH & COREY

African American culture met American culture in this creative wedding session. With bridals and portraits packed with personality and emotion, J&J Studios created a warm showcase of Dinah & Corey’s humorous personalities and a mutual adoration for each other. The bride and groom playfully engaged in all kinds of fun in the midst of capturing candid pictures. From the couple’s first moments of waking up until the last kiss after their first dance as a married couple, J&J Studios was there to capture it all. PATIENCE & ANWAR: AFRICAN AMERICAN WEDDING AND ENGAGEMENT

We had a lot of fun shooting the lovely Patience and Anwar wedding, not to mention the beautiful couple. It was a joy meeting them, and their love for each other is apparent in these photographs. Their wedding was a great experience, and we hope you enjoy every moment as much as we did. From the minute we met them, we knew that we were in for a fun time. They had a great sense of humor, and besides being gorgeous, they are so relaxed with each other. We laughed with them the whole day, and got some great photos! We had a great experience with this couple. Abby and Xavier were such a blast to work with. They were comfortable and very enthusiastic in front of the camera. Their love and affection were apparent as they gazed into each other’s eyes and laughed together through the session. This beautiful couple had such an easy connection and love for one another! We had the pleasure of working with Patience and Anwar during their engagement photoshoot. There were a lot of fun backdrops to play with, and we had a great time using them! They were a beautiful couple to work with and were comfortable in front of the camera. Love was evident as they placed their hands on each other and laughed together through the session. It made our job so easy when subjects are this upbeat, happy, and playful with each other; it allows us to capture more natural emotion than we could have ever imagined.
