New Jersey is a very diverse state. You can drive from mountain hills down through highly industrial industry areas to crowded cities to farmland to gorgeous ocean views all within a relatively short distance from each other. The diversity within one state is remarkable. That said the variety of venues that are available in New Jersey are as diversified as the state itself. There are elaborate classic venues that offer a certain ambiance to very simple halls that serve as a space to gather to enjoy a simple celebration. In this case the Bishop Farmstead Wedding of Jackie and James highlight a venue that combines the simplicity of a country setting with the warm comfort of hominess that anyone would be envious to be invited to a celebration held there.

Bishop Farmstead was constructed in 1932, This vintage barn oversees 12+ acres of native grasslands – a rich habitat for wildflowers, birds and butterflies – and a historic farmhouse built in the 1750s by a second-generation Quaker farmer.  The property is also home to Pinelands Preservation Alliance, whose mission is to protect the natural resources, history and culture of this unique region.

In 2017, the Alliance transformed the barn into a great gathering place. The recently completed renovation brings contemporary comfort and energy efficiency to a setting that still retains its authentic character. For weddings and private celebrations, the “big red barn” opens onto beautiful outdoor spaces for garden ceremonies and cocktails, while the interior is scaled for dinner and dancing for as many as 200 guests.

The couple, Jackie and James were a perfect couple to showcase their special day at this special venue and the joy and fun they had. As with any special day, it all starts with the key individuals getting ready for the festivities and ceremonies that have been planned months and months in advance. And for Jackie and James this is no exception. Each starts the day with getting themselves ready in their swankiest outfits and the accoutrements that go with it. This is especially true for the Bride, who will of course be the centerpiece of this event showcasing her beautiful gown and bouget of flowers. Her make-up must be just right and hair styled accordingly to go with her veil and gown.  Not that the Groom’s prep is less important as he needs to look stylish and handsome in his suit to compliment his Bride.

Once the couple have completed their personal preparation, it’s now time for them to work with their photographer – in this case John Ryan – to capture some formal shots of the couple along with some chosen friends or family in a variety of settings that provide some insight to their relationship as well as parts of the venue they will be holding their ceremony and reception.

One of the interesting features of the Bishop Farmstead venue is an old barn that has been converted into a reception hall. It’s a unique utilization of an otherwise unremarkable building into a socially wonderful place to host a celebration.

An outdoor ceremony can prove to be a beautiful and exciting event. It highlights the beauty of the event set within the beauty of nature. It can however pose some challenges as Mother Nature may not always cooperate in the plans that have been painstakingly made for the day. But fortunately for Jackie and James the plans paid off, and their outdoor ceremony went off without a hitch.

It is a lovely thing to involve children in a ceremony, especially those who hold a special place in the couples hearts. While the chance of them being precocious exists as can be expected of young children in most cases they are fascinated by the events that unfold and bring their childlike inquisitive and awe that can be captured in photographs such as the one below.

Now that the ceremony has been completed, it’s time for the couple and their invited family and friends to enjoy a breather via the cocktail hour. It’s a brief time to take a breath from the activities that have preceded up to this point of the day and relax a bit as they the ready for some real celebrating at their reception.

The quaintness of the barn building that serves as the entertainment space is offset by the elegance of the table settings and the tabling that has been set up for the invited guests. Tapered candles and elegant place settings along with lovely flowers bring a warm ambiance to those soon to be partaking of luscious food and drinks.

You have to admit this is an exquisite cake which hopefully tastes as wonderful as it looks! Photographer John Ryan was able to capture this creative beauty in several photographs.

It’s time for the Bridal party and the parents of the Bride and Groom to make their entrances to mark the beginning of the party and the time to celebrate.

The first dance of the newly married couple is always special as it signifies the union of their relationship as they “dance” together in their future journey as Husband and Wife.

After the Bride and Groom have their special dance, it’s time for the Bride’s Father and the Groom’s Mother to dance with their child, signifying the transition of them as young children into mature adults undertaking the next portion of their life’s journey away from home and on to creating a home of their own.

Speeches are always a part of a reception. The opportunity for select friends or family to salute the couple and share thoughts and memories about them as well as extending heartfelt good wishes for the success of their union together.

This little guy is definitely enjoying himself!

And what is any reception without celebratory dancing! It’s time to enjoy the new life of this couple being together and to enjoy the company of many friends and family to dance and toast and enjoy this special day! And there usually are a few folks who tend to, say, dominate the floor, with some interpretive moves they’ve either planned for or created on the spot!

It’s almost a shame to cut into this beautiful cake, but then again, the cake is an integral part of the celebration and

There does eventually come a point when the frivolity begins to wind down, and a long day of activities in drawing to a close. The many months of planning and preparation has come to fruition, choices made stood the test, and the couple can now look back and bask in the decisions they made for their special day. Soon it will then be starting a new day as Man and Wife and moving forward in their life journey together.
