Sharon understood the importance of having professional headshots taken, but she was hesitant about using the services of a photographer whose work he hadn’t seen. She was afraid she wouldn’t get what she wanted unless she did some research herself. She said that when people go to a doctor, they don’t tell the doctor what procedures to perform on them. Instead, they go with an open mind and trust that the doctor will do what’s best for them. Sharon valued this open-minded approach to headshot photography when she chose J&J Studios. Sharon came into our studio in the morning. And we knew from the start that she would look great in her new headshots. She had a nice outfit on, she was clean and well-groomed. Moreover, she had some good ideas about what kind of photos she wanted to get. A lot of people think that if they have a stellar smile, they don’t need to worry about their headshot. However, the truth is that you can be the most beautiful person in the world, but if you’re not properly lit or styled, no one will notice.

We first got Sharon to sit down in front of a white background with some artificial light. With her blonde hair and outfit, we wanted to ensure that we captured that contrast. After that, Sharon was ready for us to direct her into a few different poses (we love directing people because it lets us get creative). We knew from the start that we wanted her to look confident and comfortable. Therefore, we got her to lean forward slightly, giving off a relaxed vibe. 

PREPARATION FOR A HEADSHOT PHOTOSHOOT

When it comes to getting a headshot for your profile on LinkedIn, for your website, or for your business cards and flyers, you want to ensure that you’re going to get the best picture possible. To be sure that you’re going to have a quality shot, follow these simple rules:

• Arrive early. It’s best to arrive early to get accustomed to your photographer. This is also an ideal time to discuss your needs.
• Dress to impress: The clothes you wear in your photos will be the first thing people notice about you, so make sure they’re something stylish and sharp.
• Make sure your hair is clean and well-groomed. If it’s particularly windy outside, consider putting some product in your hair before you arrive (for women) or making sure it’s all slicked back (for men).
• And of course, stay hydrated! Staying well-hydrated helps your skin keep its natural color and is just good practice when you’re spending time in front of a camera.
• Practice with a friend beforehand: Having someone take some photos of you beforehand can help you feel more confident in front of the camera at the actual shoot.
