Engagement photos are the perfect way to capture a happy era in a couple’s life. They chronicle who the couple is and their love for one another at that specific moment in their life together: their engagement!

Often, couples choose to focus only on one another during their engagement shoot, which is perfectly fine! But, sometimes, couples include other loved ones in their engagement photography session as well. They can include the child or children of one or both members of the couple, family members, friends, or even beloved pets!

About Joshua and Jillian

Joshua and Jillian met in October 2019. They actually credit the reason they decided to get married to the pandemic! They told J & J Studios that they were “stuck together,” but that they liked being “stuck” so much that they “want to do it for the rest of [their] lives!” We’re so happy that quarantine ended with such a wonderful move forward for this lovely couple!

Jillian works as a registered nurse, while Joshua works as a teacher. We bet between the two of them, they have lots of patience!

Meet the Pup

Here’s a fun fact about the furry cutie you see in these engagement photos: Joshua and Jillian’s miniature schnauzer’s name is Ms. Teddi Roosevelt. Their pup’s unique name references the fact that Joshua works as a history teacher!

We love that Jillian and Joshua included Ms. Teddi Roosevelt in their engagement photos. She definitely adds even more cuteness to this historic Philadelphia engagement session!

Representing Pennsylvania Universities

As you can see from their shirts in the next few photographs, both Jillian and Joshua attended Pennsylvania universities. Jillian is an alumna of Drexel University, while Joshua graduated from Pennsylvania State University. Jillian and Joshua thought it might be fun to switch representation of their respective universities!

Philadelphia Historic Engagement Session

Elfreth’s Alley is a wonderful place to take engagement photos – especially when one member of a couple works as a history teacher! As the oldest continually inhabited street in the United States, Elfreth’s Alley is an ideal location for gorgeous engagement photos. Plus, this beautiful and charming little street is closed to vehicular traffic, so you can walk down the center of the street without fear!

Continuing with the history theme, Joshua and Jillian also included in their historic engagement photography shoot iconic Philadelphia landmarks like Independence Hall, the Philadelphia Merchants’ Exchange Building, and the Fireman’s Hall Museum.

The Philadelphia Merchants’ Exchange Building was the city’s financial center, as well as home to the first US Post Office to sell stamps, until the National Park Service acquired it in 1952. Construction on the Philadelphia Exchange, another name for the building, took place between 1832 and 1934. William Strickland designed The Philadelphia Exchange in the Greek Revival style. Greek Revival is the first national American architectural style – fitting, for the first capital of the United States!
