A Brief History of Longwood Gardens

Longwood Gardens is a horticultural garden located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. About an hour from Philadelphia, this botanical garden is one of the premier in the world and is open year-round. It boasts over 9,000 species and varieties of plants spread over its more than one thousand acres of land and four-acre Conservatory. 

Before it was an architectural and botanical wonder, the land where Longwood Gardens sits today was home to the Lenni Lenape tribe of Native Americans for thousands of years. The land was purchased in 1700 by Quaker farmer George Peirce, whose twin great-grandsons pursued their interest in natural history by beginning to plant an arboretum that would come to cover fifteen acres.

Longwood Gardens was purchased in 1906 by Pierre du Pont, who made it into a horticultural garden and opened it to the public in 1921. Thanks to the generous endowment du Pont left to it, admission to Longwood Gardens was free until 1973. 

The gardens play host to over a million guests every year. Some are international, while others are domestic visitors. Many visit to view and experience its many indoor and outdoor gardens, fountains, meadows, woodlands, and shows and events. Some of these events include children’s and family activities, educational programs, gardening demonstrations, concerts, and theatrical productions. Longwood Gardens’ Autumn’s Colors display is on view now through November 14, 2021. 

The Lovely Longwood Gardens Couple: Norm and Nicole

Nicole and Norm are, like all engaged couples, clearly very in love. However, it was also clear to J & J Studios how happy they make one another during their Longwood Gardens engagement photography session. Their smiles rarely left their faces, especially when they looked at one another. 

We loved taking some moody shots under a pergola at Longwood Gardens. The golden sun behind this happy couple illuminated their silhouettes from behind. 

These shots, taken by one of Longwood Gardens’ many water features, give us a sense of tranquility and calm. The sun shone like Norm and Nicole’s own personal spotlight. We hope the sun always shines on this beautiful couple!

Fanatic Football Fans

Norm and Nicole are football fans, as you can see from the following pictures. J & J Studios thought it was hilarious how they held the football like a baby, looking down on it lovingly!

Go long! We’re sure Nicole and Norm have tons of fun together. They definitely share a wonderful sense of humor, too!

Nicole’s ring has a princess-cut diamond solitaire with tiny diamonds along the yellow gold band. It’s a romantic and timeless design that we’re sure both she and Norm will love seeing for a long time!
