Jackie understood the importance of a Headshot photo session for her career when she came to our studio. After talking to her about her goals, we scheduled a time for her photo session. She brought an outfit with her, which is what we recommend for each client during their session. We were able to help her gain confidence by giving her some tips on how to look good in pictures. First, we had her sit down so that there would be no tension in her shoulders.

Secondly, we talked about keeping a natural smile instead of a fake one because it will show up better in the photos. After that, we walked her through some examples of poses that would work best for headshots. We wanted to find ones that set Jackie up for success without making it too difficult for her to feel comfortable and confident. With practice and tips, Jackie did a great job during the session! When we had finished, she was thrilled with the results! She said she felt at ease and proud of herself. She said it helped a lot knowing I was there from start to finish, taking pictures of every step.

UNDERSTANDING HEADSHOT PHOTOGRAPHY

Headshot photography is a term used for different types of head and shoulder photographs taken for various purposes.

There are two major types of headshots: publicity shots and acting headshots.

• Publicity shots are traditionally more casual, taken in a relaxed setting with a simple background. The goal is to convey what you look like, who you are as a person, and your personality all at once. These are the kinds of pictures that appear in newspapers, magazines, and websites.
• Acting headshots are similar to publicity shots except they’re intended to be more formal, professional-looking images that make the subject look more professional and serious. They include poses that look more rehearsed and expressive than natural. Actors use headshots when applying for auditions, models when applying for modeling jobs, and in other professions where being photographed is part of the job. Professional modeling agencies typically require their models to have at least one set of acting headshots.
