Philadelphia First Holy Communion Photographer

Mila’s Philadelphia First Holy Communion session was a gorgeous success at FDR Park. The Philadelphia First Holy Communion is an important step in the Catholic Faith and hiring a Philadelphia First Holy Communion Photographer is a great idea to make sure this memory is documented for generations to come.
Philadelphia First Holy Communion
The First Holy Communion is the 3rd of seven sacraments received in the Catholic Faith. It is received once the child has been Baptised and completed the first confession. By papal decree in 1910, Pope Pius X issued the quam singulari which changed the age at which first holy communion is taken to 7 years old. This is by many considered the age of reason–or the age at which a child can distinguish right and wrong.
Commonly gifts are given on the First Holy Communion Day such as Bibles, rosaries, devotional books, prayer books, or holy cards. Monetary gifts are also common and in many families, this sacrament is a joyous occasion and cause for great celebration. Many families have professional photographs taken and choosing a Philadelphia First Holy Communion Photographer that is familiar with the holiness and traditions of the Catholic faith is essential to capturing the essence of the day.
One of the things I especially loved about this session was how playful and exuberant Mila was during the session. We loved capturing her childish innocence and playful demeanor throughout the session. It was a gorgeous sunny day, but by using off-camera lighting we were able to produce beautiful, stunning portraits with deep blues that still appropriately exposed the subjects. No washed-out skies here!
FDR Park
We held the First Holy Communion session at FDR Park in South Philly. The park is huge featuring 40 acres of lakes, baseball and tennis courts, a soccer field, picnic groves, a world-renowned skate park, the historic American-Swedish Museum, and the infamous gazebo/pavilion area where we chose to do most of the portraits. On the weekends, hundreds gather in the spring and summer for picnics, tailgating, and other family gatherings.
It was an epic day and the start of a busy Spring wedding season so it was a nice change of pace for sure. Here are some of my favorite images from their Philadelphia First Holy Communion session. Definitely, one of my favorite places to shoot and a real joy to be around. There’s so much going on that it seems to be a constant vibration of activity. We can’t wait to be back there again. Check out an engagement session we did at FDR Park.
Without further ado, here are some of my favorite images from the first holy communion session.
