Mansion on Main Street wedding by J&J Studios

Don’t panic! If you’re one of the many couples that have been forced to reschedule or postpone your wedding due to COVID-19 or other unforeseen occurrences you might be wondering how you are going to break the news to your guests and get your vendors on board. No doubt, informing several dozens of guests of the wedding date change can be quite overwhelming. Here are a few suggestions that can make the process a little bit easier.

Digitally Announce The New Wedding Date

Sending out new wedding invitations with the updated date and venue change information (if you had to switch venues) may not be ideal for most couples. It’s also an added expense that might not be necessary. Perhaps the fastest and easiest way to update a large number of people is to do it digitally.

Everyone knows that social media is the new word of mouth. You can announce the date change on your Instagram or Facebook page. Consider creating a FaceBook group for your wedding where you can provide updated information and have guests RSVP right in the group. You can follow up with a mass email to all your guests.

Call Everyone On Your Guest List

Depending on the size of your guest list, a simple phone call might be the best option. After all, not everyone has social media. If you have a big guest list, consider enlisting the help of your bridesmaids, maid of honor or close family members and friends that want to pitch in. Calling each of your guests lets you communicate directly with them to inform them of the new plans. You’ll also get their immediate RSVP which saves you a lot of time.

Send Change – The – Dates

If you had to change the date and the venue you might feel more comfortable sending out Change-The-Dates or updated wedding invitations if you can squeeze it into the budget. You can keep things simple by sending a basic postcard out to all of your guests and asking them to RSVP by sending you an email or giving you a phone call.

If you decide to send out new wedding invitations, you can send out ones with your original invitation design with the original date crossed out just so your guests won’t be confused.

Communicate With Your Vendors

After you have updated the guest list, it’s important that you keep the line of communication open with your vendors. More than likely, you’ll have to cancel contracts that have already been signed and rebook your vendors.  You’ll need to inform your vendors of the date change and update them on how many people will be attending your ceremony and reception. It’s important to remember that your vendors want you to have the wedding of your dreams but most of them are small businesses that have undergone unprecedented changes.

Don’t Lose Your Excitement

Rescheduling your wedding day is probably one of the most stressful experiences you’ve probably had to endure. But don’t forget it’s all for your special day and well worth the hassle. With that being said, it’s time to get excited again!
