Spring brings so much life and loveliness to the world around us. It’s the season when we once again see and smell flowers and hear leaves rustling in trees. For Sharyn and Kyle, spring is also when they welcomed their son, Chase! They marked the happy occasion with a family session in Rittenhouse Square with J & J Studios. Joy beamed like the increasingly lingering spring sunshine from all three of their faces!

Why Raise Kids in Philadelphia, PA?

There’s so many reasons why raising kids in Philadelphia is a great idea. The city’s central location in the Mid-Atlantic region of the East Coast makes much of the rest of the Eastern seaboard easy for its residents to access. It’s the largest city in Pennsylvania, and the only larger city in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions is New York City. 

Center of U.S. History

Philadelphia was the first capital of the United States, and remained so until 1800. In Center City, you can visit Independence Hall. That’s where Founding Fathers signed both the Declaration of Independence and later, the Constitution. Philly is also the home of numerous U.S. firsts, like its first hospital, library, medical school, and zoo. 

Philly is a city that values and preserves its rich history. Many of the major events in U.S. history happened here, some predating the country’s establishment. Preserving Philadelphia’s history allows American history to surround all within the city. It’s an effortless way to immerse kids in local and national history.

Cultural Center

Philadelphia is full of beauty. You can find the most public art and the most murals in any American city here. The Rodin Museum, which houses the most creations by Auguste Rodin outside his native France, calls Philly home. It’s also home to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the largest art museums in the world. After appearing in the 1976 film, Rocky, the museum’s front steps became iconic.

It’s easy to attend various live performances in Philadelphia, too. The city is home to many theaters, where visitors can enjoy plays, ballets, and operas. Concerts by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Philadelphia Pops, and many other musical groups occur often.

Public Transportation

City infrastructure makes getting around without a car easy. SEPTA, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, operates an abundance of transportation options. This includes trains, subways, elevated trains, trolleys, electric buses, and buses.

Famous Residents

Philly is the hometown of a multitude of celebrities. This list includes actors like Quinta Brunson and Bradley Cooper, and comedians like Tina Fey and Kevin Hart. Some Philly-native musicians include Billie Holiday, Marian Anderson, P!nk, and Leslie Odom, Jr. Visual artists from Philadelphia include Andrew Wyeth and Impressionist painter Mary Cassatt. Renowned writers Isaac Asimov, Edgar Allan Poe, and many more once called the city home, as well. 

M. Night Shyamalan and Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, both came from Philadelphia. The house where Betsy Ross, one of the city’s most notable historical residents, lived operates as a museum today. Additionally, real-life legend Henry “Box” Brown once called Philly home. He attained his freedom from slavery by mailing himself in a wooden crate to abolitionists in Philadelphia.

Family Session in Rittenhouse Square

For the reasons we’ve given above and many more, Sharyn and Kyle have begun their family in Philadelphia. The love these three feel for each other is so clear on each of their faces. Even baby Chase smiled often during this Rittenhouse Square family session with J & J Studios!

Each family member wore outfits in similar colors. Coordination helps promote cohesion, and symbolizes family unity. Adorably, Chase and his dad Kyle’s outfits even matched perfectly!
